Jerrabomberra takes its name from a local Aboriginal place name said to mean 'boy frightened by storm'. John Palmer, a former First Fleet purser, took up the land in the colony's early decades, and the modern suburb's first homes were built in 1988. It has three parts: The Heights, at the foot of Jerrabomberra Mountain; The Park, on flatter land further south, separated from The Heights by Edwin Land Parkway; and Lakeview. Jerrabomberra Lake drains into Jerrabomberra Creek, and Allan McGrath Reserve on Silky Oak Circuit hosts cricket and AFL.

Most Jerrabomberra rentals are freestanding houses, with the odd duplex or townhouse. Building started in the late eighties and continued for years afterwards, so houses vary in age, and the earliest have seen plenty of use. Owners of those homes should plan for ageing hot water systems, heating, roofs, gutters and fences. Homes on The Heights can have sloping blocks with steps and retaining walls, while those closer to the lake sit on flatter ground. Larger gardens need a clear care arrangement from the start.

Jerrabomberra's lake, the slopes of Jerrabomberra Mountain, its community facilities and sports grounds draw renters, as does a location within easy reach of both Queanbeyan and Canberra, where many residents work.

Most of the homes we have leased in Jerrabomberra are houses.

Jerrabomberra questions

Does it matter whether a Jerrabomberra home is in The Heights, The Park or Lakeview?

It helps applicants picture the home. The Heights climbs the foot of Jerrabomberra Mountain, so expect slopes, outlooks and steps, while The Park spreads across the plain down towards Jerrabomberra Lake, with Edwin Land Parkway dividing the two. We name the area in every listing and describe the block honestly, because the setting shapes how people use the home.

Is Jerrabomberra the same place as the ACT's Jerrabomberra district?

No. The suburb of Jerrabomberra belongs to Queanbeyan, on the New South Wales side, while the ACT has a separate district of the same name, which includes the village of Oaks Estate. The difference matters because each side of the border has its own rules and forms. Distinct Properties is licensed in NSW and the ACT, so we can manage homes in either.

Rentals in Jerrabomberra run under the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 (NSW). Our landlord FAQs cover bonds, notice and rent increases. This is general information from Distinct Property Management, licensed in NSW and the ACT, not legal advice. NSW rules differ from the ACT's. For a dispute, contact NSW Fair Trading or the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).
