Property managers in Macarthur, ACT

An aerial view over the Tuggeranong district

Macarthur is a small suburb on the north side of Isabella Drive in Tuggeranong, ACT, next to Fadden and Gilmore, with part of the Wanniassa Hills bushland inside its boundary. Renters get roomy houses and buses along Coyne Street. Distinct Properties manages rental homes across the Tuggeranong district, including Macarthur, taking care of leasing and upkeep through its property management service.

Gazetted in 1982 and first settled the next year, Macarthur is named after John Macarthur, who helped establish the Merino wool industry in Australia, and its street names follow a wool theme. Wanniassa Hills Nature Reserve adjoins the suburb, with a lookout over Woden and Tuggeranong and wildflowers on its slopes in spring. Coyne Street carries routes 74, 75 and 76, and before the houses went up it formed part of a motorcycle racing circuit, with streets such as Jackie Howe Crescent and Carson Street also used for races.

Macarthur is almost all separate houses, and in the census most have four or more bedrooms, which makes it a suburb of larger homes. Owners letting one of these houses are usually looking after generous living space, a garage and a garden that can sit close to bushland. That can mean extra attention to gutters, leaf litter and outdoor areas, especially before winter, alongside the usual servicing of heating and hot water. Keeping a simple maintenance calendar makes those jobs predictable.

Renters like the space these houses offer, the walking tracks of the Wanniassa Hills and the Erindale Centre a short drive away.

Macarthur questions

Does living beside the Wanniassa Hills change how a Macarthur home is looked after?

It adds a few seasonal jobs. Homes near bushland gather more leaf litter in gutters and on roofs, so we suggest a clean before winter and check outdoor areas at every inspection. Native trees and visiting wildlife can also mean more yard work. We raise these in our reports early so you can plan for the cost.

How does Distinct Properties choose a tenant for a house in Macarthur?

We advertise the home with clear photos of each living area and the yard, run viewings at times that suit most applicants, including evenings and weekends, and check every application for identity, rental history and ability to pay. We then recommend the applicant we think suits the home and explain our reasons. You make the final decision on who is offered the lease.

Rentals in Macarthur run under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (ACT). Our landlord FAQs cover bonds, notice and rent increases. This is general information about ACT tenancy law and real estate agent conduct from Distinct Property Management, a licensed ACT real estate agency, not legal advice. Rules differ in NSW and other states. For a dispute, contact the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT) or a Canberra tenancy advocate.
